Answers of TPO Regulations 2025
About the upcoming TPO Regulations coming as of September 1st 2025 in all of the EU and 2026 restrictions in Great Britain.
TPO has been prohibited to be used in cosmetic products by the European Commission for production and sale.
We understand many of you have concerns about these changes. The following is the answers of what you may concern:
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR NAIL TECHS WHO STILL HAVE TPO PRODUCTS?
As a nail technician, you are still able to use your TPO products once the ban comes into effect. The ban is only only applies to the manufacture and sale of products containing TPO, not the use of existing ones. Meaning there is no need to throw any of your products out, if you want you can stock up on your beloved products prior to the ban to continue longer use.
WHAT IS TPO?
TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide) is a photo initiator used in nail products to help harden and cure the coatings quickly under UV light.
WHY IS IT BEING BANNED?
Regulatory bodies in the EU and Great Britain are implementing the ban as part of broader cosmetic safety regulations aimed at reducing the use of chemicals that may pose risks, particularly in products that come into direct contact with the skin. While not considered dangerous, or related to product safety or allergies, the EU is implementing this ban as a precautionary measure.
Is TPO dangerous?
TPO has been safely used in many products, including nail gels for decades without issue. TPO is being restricted for use only in the EU as a precautionary measure. The TPO restriction is NOT related to any issues regarding allergies or adverse reactions.
If I am outside the EU, does the TPO ban affect me?
No. You can continue using and purchasing products as normal. TPO is a safe, highly researched and reliable ingredient that has been used in the formulation of cured nail products for many decades but to streamline our internal operations, we will phase into TPO-Free formulations for all world-wide markets in the foreseeable future.
WHAT IS YOKEFELLOW APPROACH TO THESE CHANGES?
As a company, we constantly assess cosmetic regulations and have been updating our product formulations in-line with guidelines and upcoming changes.
We have been bringing in TPO-free products already ahead of the changes. We’ve extensively tested the TPO-Free formulas and can confidently say there is no noticeable difference in wear, curing performance, shade/colour, gloss, or the overall durability and will continue to do so.
Original formulations that contain TPO will be discontinued and reformulated to adhere to the new regulations. From September 1, 2025, original formulations containing TPO will not be sold in the EU.
Any products currently containing TPO will not be restocked in the EU and will only be available while stocks last.
